4. AI Processing and Automated Decision-Making
4.1 Content Analysis
When you upload photos or videos, they are transmitted to Google's Gemini API for automated visual analysis. This analysis identifies scenes, objects, activities, visible text, brands, food and beverages, general people context (approximate count, group setting, general expressions), mood, and other visual characteristics. Audio from videos is also analyzed to detect speech content and music.
No facial recognition, biometric identification, or individual identification is performed.
The analysis generates content descriptions, classification tags, and mathematical representations that power the recommendation system and topic matching.
4.2 Recommendation System
The Service uses an AI-powered recommendation system to personalize the content you see. This constitutes automated decision-making as defined under certain privacy laws. Your feed is generated based on:
- Content relevance — How closely content matches your demonstrated interests
- Engagement quality — How other users are engaging with the content
- Social connections — Whether the poster is your friend, or friends participate in the same moments
- Topic relevance — Whether content relates to trending topics you have engaged with
- Freshness — More recent content is prioritized
- Moment activity — Active and time-sensitive moments are boosted
- Media type — The system learns whether you tend to engage more with video or photo content
- Exploration — A portion of your feed intentionally includes content outside your usual preferences to promote discovery and prevent filter bubbles
4.3 Preference Learning
The Service builds a mathematical representation of your content preferences based on your engagement over the past 30 days. Positive actions (saves, shares, follows, likes, extended viewing) strengthen your affinity toward similar content. Negative actions (skips, "not interested" marks, reports) reduce it. A separate short-term signal captures your recent interests over the past 48 hours.
Your preference profile is stored in your account and used exclusively to personalize your experience on the Service.
4.4 Friend Interaction Scoring
The Service maintains an interaction score between you and each of your friends, derived from your mutual engagement (likes, comments, messages, profile visits, shares). This score naturally decreases over time if interaction slows. It is used to prioritize content from friends you interact with most and to determine which friend-related notifications are most relevant to you.
4.5 Comment Sentiment Analysis
Comments you post may be sent to OpenAI for automated sentiment classification (positive, negative, or neutral). Your comment text is sent without your user identity attached. The classification is used internally to refine recommendations and is not displayed to other users.
4.6 How to Influence Your Recommendations
- Engage with content you enjoy (like, save, comment, share)
- Use the "not interested" feature on content you do not want to see
- Delete your account to fully reset your preference profile
4.7 Limitations
All AI-generated outputs — including content analysis, topic summaries, sentiment classifications, topic-post associations, and recommendations — are automated and may contain errors or inaccuracies. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy or reliability of AI-generated outputs.
